FAQ – Frequently asked questions about IGP Chemie, high-temperature adhesives & coatings

  • What is IGP Chemie GmbH?

IGP Chemie GmbH from Dülmen specializes in high-temperature adhesives, heat-resistant coatings and fire protection products for industrial applications.

  • Where is IGP Chemie based?

Our company is headquartered in Dülmen (North Rhine-Westphalia), and we supply customers throughout Germany, Europe, and worldwide.

  • Which industries does IGP Chemie work with?

We supply, among others, the automotive industry, construction industry, energy technology, mechanical engineering, furniture/wood industry and furnace construction.

Products

  • What are high-temperature adhesives?

High-temperature adhesives (technically: high-temperature adhesives) are special adhesives that can withstand extreme temperatures and permanently bond materials such as metal, ceramic or glass.

  • What is water glass (sodium silicate)?

Sodium silicate, also known as sodium silicate, is an inorganic binder. It serves as the basis for many of our high-temperature and fire-resistant adhesives and is fire-resistant and non-combustible.

  • What is a fire protection coating?

A fire-resistant coating for interior use reliably protects components from fire and extreme heat by forming an insulating protective layer in the event of a fire. This ensures the structure remains functional longer and further extends its service life.

  • Which high-temperature adhesive can withstand 1000 °C?

Our high-temperature adhesives are resistant to temperatures well over 1000°C, depending on the product, making them the perfect solution for extreme operating conditions. While conventional plastics fail at significantly lower temperatures, our specialty adhesives retain their strength and reliability even under the most extreme heat.

  • Are fire protection adhesives non-flammable?

Yes, our fire protection adhesives are non-flammable and specially developed for use in fire-resistant structures.

  • According to which standards are the products tested?

In the area of fire protection, our adhesives and coatings are tested according to the relevant standards DIN EN 13501-1 and DIN 4102. Depending on the application, we also use other recognized standards and test methods to comprehensively guarantee the quality and safety of our products.

  • What is a water glass adhesive?

A water glass adhesive is based on sodium silicate. It is an inorganic silicate adhesive characterized by high temperature resistance and fire resistance.

Application & processing

  • How do you apply high-temperature adhesive correctly?

The surface must be clean, free of grease, and dry. The adhesive is then applied evenly and cured according to the data sheet.

Commercially available squeegees for cartridges, as well as spatulas or squeegees, are suitable for applying the adhesive evenly.

  • What temperature resistance do IGP Chemie products have?

Depending on their composition, our products are resistant to temperatures up to over 1000 °C.

  • How does fire protection foam work?

Our non-combustible mineral foam is a high-quality fire protection foam that does not intumesce but is immediately effective due to its mineral composition.

In the event of a fire, it does not provide any additional fuel but forms a heat-resistant barrier that repels fire and high temperatures.

  • Which adhesive is suitable for fire protection boards?

For fire protection boards, we recommend high-quality water glass-based fire protection adhesives that are tested according to DIN EN 13501-1 or DIN 4102.

These adhesives ensure a secure, permanent bond and meet the highest requirements for structural fire protection.

They are particularly suitable for the installation of calcium silicate boards, gypsum fiber boards and other non-combustible building boards because they are temperature-resistant, low-emission and easy to process.

  • Which adhesive is used in oven construction?

Fire-resistant adhesives based on water glass are predominantly used in furnace construction. They are designed for high temperatures and can withstand long-term stress.
